Sierra Framework
Notice Of Intent to File Suit Against
Sierra Nevada Conservation Framework
By Jim Arbogast V.P. Land Use
On May 5th, CORVA members Lynn Stokes and Jim Arbogast
with the assistance of Public Lands for the People (PLP) filed their intent to
file suit against the USDA Forest Service regarding the Sierra Nevada
Conservation Framework (SNCF).
We feel confident that a federal judge in a court of law
will resolve the fallacies we have found in their massive forest plan. We
expect the outcome to be very positive.
Since the inception of this plan was first announced,
CORVA and PLP have been appraised of the development of the Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) which was recently published and
distributed to the general public for comment.
As the plan is currently written, the U.S. Forest
Service will be combining the management of 11 forests into a one-size
-fits-all plan. This will have devastating effects on all forest users and
recreation will take a crushing blow.
I urge every member to dig deep and find the resources
to help fund this fight. We need your support. The CORVA members said they
wanted litigation and the CORVA BOD heard you loud and clear. Now we need you
to hear us loud and clear - if we don't fund this fight, there may be nothing
more to fight for. Please send your generous contributions to CORVA today!
Next month the entire suit will be shared.
